description | Between 2005 and 2018, several decrees, reports and policies incentivize the French Higher Schools of Architecture, also known as ENSA, to train their students in the field of rehabilitation, intervention on existing buildings, by relying notably on the pedagogical and scientific networks “Architecture, Heritage and Creation” (APC). Parallelly, architectural practices in this field have gained momentum over the past fifteen years, and a more acute perception of environmental issues has highlighted the importance of rehabilitation as a mean towards a transition to a more ecology-friendly building sector. The goal of this study is to assess the consequences of institutional policies and of the influence of the APC network on the teachings of French establishments of higher education in the field of architecture. Through a quantitative textometry-based analysis, we focused on the curricula of 11 ENSA at both the Bachelor and the Master level over the past decade. We observed that words like existing, rehabilitation, transformation have been used increasingly in teachings. Thus, we can observe an increase in the number of teachings on rehabilitation, even if they do not yet meet all the needs in this area. |
