| Summary: | This paper makes the argument that the concept of dialogism, considered both from an interdiscursive as well as interlocutive point of view, might prove useful in analysing the way Burkinabe speakers assimilate and make use of ethnicist discourses that circulate in the public space. Based on the detailed analysis of a short piece of interaction and the different forms of enunciative heterogeneity it presents, I attempt to show how integrating ethnographic data into discourse analysis might enhance a strictly linguistic approach. This paper concludes that taking into account the dialogic dimension in the interaction between the speaker and his interlocutor, in this case the researcher, as well as between the speaker and former enunciators, should allow for a better understanding of social and discursive practices. |
