description This study is devoted to the question of textual coherence in various types of texts in Middle French (didactic works, short stories). The goal is to highlight the text / sentence (global set) assembly and to show under which conditions the evolution of the linguistic system produces new textual structures. We describe here the different types of theme progression used in the textual productions in Middle French. The concept of genre is an important parameter for the analysis of macro- and microstructure of a text. Our study shows that the textual structures evolution is related to the syntactic level and appears in the increasing complexity of thematic structure sets in Middle French. The relation which is established between the thematic level and the morphosyntactic and semantic levels is defined as an interaction whose operation is analyzed in a diachronic perspective.
