Summary: | The award of the label "European Capital of Culture 2010" to Istanbul questions the internationalisation process of the city, advanced by the metropolitan authorities in their promotion policy. The latter is based on three main areas: cultural agenda, great projects and heritage. This proactive but not always coordinated policy leads to spatial reconfigurations specific to "global cities". Nevertheless, the negative effects are numerous and prove that this international model can not be applied to all cities without taking into account the territorial specificities. |
