Description
Summary:Extensive research on organizational citizenship behavior has been extensively inspected in the education field; however, there is a shortage of OCB studies in university settings. A preliminary study at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura revealed deficiencies in OCB among non-academic employees. Consequently, research was initiated to examine the current OCB level and influence of non-monetary rewards, i.e., job recognition, promotion, and opportunities for career development, on OCB among non-academic staff. We conducted an online survey using a stratified sampling method, obtaining 118 responses out of the 166 employees. Although the correlation analysis indicated a significant relationship between non-monetary rewards and OCB, the results of the regression analysis were different. Job recognition and career development opportunities emerged as key elements in fostering OCB, highlighting the need for universities to offer growth opportunities and to implement formal recognition systems. However, the effect of job promotion on OCB creation requires further research, specifically in a university setting.
