| Summary: | Abstract The objective of the study was to analyze the economic effect derived from the budget allocation to tuberculosis (TB) prevention and control program in Mexico, as well as the consequences of a potential reduction in this budget on combating the disease, considering different economic agents. To this end, a methodology based on the expansion of the input–output matrix (IOM) was employed, which allowed for the quantification of the interrelationships between economic sectors and health expenditure. This methodology was implemented through economic impact multipliers and demand linkage indices for the health sector, and the sequential order of demand in relation to other economic activities was also determined. The results show that the structure of the health sector generates links that form a significant value chain. Therefore, to improve TB prevention and control in Mexico, it will be essential to increase budgetary expenditure. |
