Description
Summary:The purpose of this study is to determine how refugee students perceive matter and the concepts related to the matter in their minds. The study was carried on as a case study approach in the qualitative research methodology. In this concept, an open-ended questionnaire was given to the 7 refugee students attending to the third and fourth grades of primary school in Çorum. The data obtained from the questionnaire was examined through content analysis and they were expressed in terms of frequency and percentage. From the analysis, it was found out that these students could not acquire the basic concepts placed in the primary school science curriculum such as classifying the matters and describing the matter. It was resulted that the refugee students in the sample did not have the desired understanding on the matter concept. Finally, it can be suggested to support their learning through computer simulations, lab activities, examples from the daily life and some audio and visual materials.
