Summary:The characteristic attribute of family companies is that they closely connect two areas of human life – family and work. This specific connection can be source of strength and the success of company, but at the same time is the cause of many problems. Example of such threat is high risk of destructive conflict. The purpose of this article was to determine how the risk is limited in practice by family businesses that achieve success. Based on a case study of one such company author established the following possible solutions: clear and consistently adhered rules on the distribution of profit; making sure that members of the family do not occupy equivalent positions of leadership and support for family members in establishing and running their own businesses. On this basis it can be concluded that the broad institutional factors in the examined case played a key role.
