Summary: | This article aims at questioning the place of the landscape and the sensitivity of farmers in both their implementation of practices and their relationships to their farm sites. It is a continuation of doctoral research which contributed a publication to this review in 2010. The initial publication laid the bases for an ethnographic method of studying the landscape on the basis of comments by a livestock raiser given as an example. The present contribution widens the perspective. It describes and interprets how the attachment to the sites of three Pyrenean valleys and certain landscape or heritage values of the livestock raisers met constitute the foundation of specific practices of mountain pastoral maintenance. Through this initial analysis of landscapes through pastoral practices with particular attention to both the productive and subjective rationales of certain practices, the article shows how the landscape forms bear the imprint of the values and emotions of those producing them. |
