Description
Summary:The urban waste dumps that have proliferated in Lebanon constitute a real problem in this country. Situated in public locations, these waste dumps provoke several types of social manifestations related to the perception of waste that range between what is thrown and what is useful. The problem of wastes and urban dumps is a complicated and delicate issue, due to not only the sanitary dangers that they represent, but also because they are gaining a social, psychological and identity-related dimension. Many damages are incurred at various levels because of the dumps emergence that are mostly related to the devaluation of the places, to the sanitary harm and disfiguration of the natural sights. This leads us to the search for the reasons that made the attempts of transforming these dumps unfruitful. If the waste dumps management policies have not been yet defined by the successive governments, then by which geographical localization logics do the urban waste dumps in Lebanon abide ? Which hypothesis related to spatial, political and social causes could explain their burst and anarchic dissemination all over the Lebanese territories ?
