Summary: | Introduction: thymomas are rare tumors, they are considered the most frequent of the anterior mediastinum and originate in the thymic gland.
Patient information: 55-year-old female patient, with a history of digestive disorders, occasional numbness and weakness in the upper and lower extremities, passive smoker since childhood. She suffered from COVID-19 Delta in 2021, received treatment and has no repercussions. She attended the Pulmonology Clinic due to right scapular pain and, at times, cough with whitish morning expectorations. She denied dyspnea and was afebrile. Through laboratory and imaging studies, a clinical suspicion of thymoma was reached, a diagnosis that was confirmed by the biopsy report of the lesion removed by conventional transsternal thymectomy.
Conclusions: an early and timely diagnosis of thymoma must be made to guarantee greater survival for patients, for which knowledge of its imaging characteristics is of special importance. |
