description With the development of mass media, the preservation and dissemination of traditional cultural heritage acquires unprecedented opportunities. At the same time, media technologies are changing the ways of transmitting information about traditional culture and its objects. For example, Peking Opera, which has the status of a treasure of national Chinese culture, is facing new opportunities and challenges. The author of the article addresses the problem of preserving and supporting traditional art in the conditions of digital culture. Aim. To identify the innovative effect and possibilities of new technologies used in the display of Peking Opera, and to outline the emerging challenges. For this purpose, the author has investigated two digital media technologies (“light and shadow art” and “particle special effects technology”) that significantly update the possibilities of representation. Results. First, the author revealed the specifics of the practical application of each of these technological approaches aimed at updating the forms of cultural heritage demonstration, expanding the audience and adapting the art of Peking Opera to the perception of modern viewers. Secondly, the problems arising in the translation of traditional art into the format of “Digital Peking Opera” are outlined. The results can provide a theoretical basis and practical guidance for effective cultural heritage communication in the era of new media
