Description
Summary:The paper aims to determine the respective role of images and text in the elaboration of the proof in a scientific article published in Physical Review B in 2001. First, I will focus on the functions of images and text as the researchers defined them. Then, in the main point of this paper, I try to determine how the burden of proof is distributed between images and text in such article. This leads me to question what is exactly the right level of analysis when we try to understand the argumentation developed in a scientific paper aiming to convince readers. I think it might be an intermediate level between the micro-analysis (focusing on the construction of facts and on the decontextualistaion effects) and the philosophical analysis (based on universal models as the hypothetico‑deductive model for example).
