Description
Summary:What we wish to tackle in the present contribution concerns a rather peculiar aspect of the French colonisation legacy. The one dealing with the tracks and layouts of civil and structural engineering in the cities’ foundations. Indeed, these geometric layouts, once being identified, represent an undeniable structure in the process of elaborating urban projects à both for redevelopments and expansions. Through an example of the foundation of a colonisation village (the pair village/colonisation area), we suggest to illustrate the hypothetical layout which is at the basis of the facility. We will finish with some simulations of the structural impacts on the present city. We shall conclude by suggesting that it is necessary to know and to acknowledge this implicit material memory. The latter marks out and shape our territories and could eventually participate in the creation of a theoretical cornerstone that would be essential to the conception of the urban instruments.
