Omaida C. Velazquez

Omaida Caridad Velazquez is a Cuban-American surgeon and researcher. In 2015, she became the first Latina woman to lead a major academic surgery department in the United States, at University of Miami (UM) Health System-Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, a position she held until 2023. She holds the David Kimmelman Endowed Chair in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the University of Miami and was inducted into the National Academy of Medicine in 2022. Provided by Wikipedia
